Pia Julin is Fintraffic’s new CEO

Fintraffic’s Board of Directors has appointed Pia Julin, MSc. (Tech), eMBA, as the company’s CEO as of 14 June 2023. Julin succeeds Pertti Korhonen, who has been Fintraffic’s CEO since 2019 and will be leaving the company as agreed with the Board of Directors. Korhonen will now be focusing on his work with growth companies and an investment bank.

Pia Julin has been CEO of Fintraffic Railway since April 2022. Service and Development Director Sanna Järvenpää has been appointed Acting CEO of Fintraffic Railway.

“Pia Julin has successfully led Fintraffic’s rail traffic management, ensuring both the development of safety and traffic control services and progress in our significant Digirail project. Thanks to the Digirail project, Finland will be at the forefront in promoting digitalisation in Europe to both improve the safety and functionality of rail transport and increase its appeal. Pia Julin has a strong background in business, production, logistics chains, and safety, quality and corporate responsibility management at a number of different companies,” says Tero Ojanperä, Chair of Fintraffic’s Board of Directors.

“Having road, rail, sea and air traffic management within the same company creates excellent opportunities for Fintraffic to develop the entire Finnish transport system. We can offer and utilise the data generated by traffic management to develop traffic services in collaboration with other operators. Fintraffic encompasses all modes of transport and has already established its place within collaboration networks in the traffic sector. Being able to take charge of such a company now is a major show of confidence in my abilities. By working closely with different modes of transport and a variety of stakeholders, we’re aiming to build more competitive logistics chains and ensure smoother and more environmentally friendly travel within Finland as a whole,” says Pia Julin.

“Fintraffic’s new vision and strategy were created under Pertti’s leadership, and are steering the company towards open collaboration and partnerships with a variety of operators. Our mission is to work with our customers to provide the world’s best traffic management and smart transport services,” says Tero Ojanperä.

“As Fintraffic enters a new phase in the implementation of its vision and strategy, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Pertti for his major contribution to the development of both the company and Finnish traffic as a whole. During the company’s next developmental phase, we’ll be aiming to have an even greater impact, as we continue to build a traffic ecosystem that promotes data utilisation,” says Ojanperä.

“I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with the company for just over five years. First chairing the Boards of Fintraffic Air Navigation and Fintraffic Railway, then assisting the Ministry of Transport and Communications in establishing Fintraffic and chairing its Board, and finally serving as CEO for a few years.  It’s been highly rewarding to familiarise myself with traffic management on land, at sea and in the air. In particular, I’ve been inspired by Fintraffic’s role in building the traffic data ecosystem. I’d like to thank all of Fintraffic’s top professionals for their cooperation and the interesting years I’ve spent here,” says Pertti Korhonen.

“I’ll soon be moving on to new challenges. I’m joining Namier Capital, a London-based investment bank, as a Board member and an advisor specialising in green transition technology companies. Infinited Fiber Company, for which I’m both Chair of the Board and an investor, is investing in a textile fibre recycling plant in Kemi, and this project will require a great deal of my time. I’m also involved with Enerim Oy, a supplier of critical software for electricity networks, for whom the green transition is also a key driver,” says Korhonen.
