The Airspace Management Cell (AMC) establishes danger areas for a maximum of two (2) weeks in accordance with section 11 of the Aviation Act and the conditions specified in section 3.10.2 of the ASM Operations Manual.

Applications concerning any other areas should be addressed to Traficom.

The applicant is informed of the approved establishment of a temporary danger area via e-mail.

An approved temporary danger area is announced with a NOTAM bulletin and presented in the Pre-flight Information Bulletins (PIB) section at www.ais.fi/en and on the NAV WRNG chart.

2. Aviation restrictions by order of an authority

In accordance with section 11 of the Aviation Act the Airspace Management Cell (AMC) must, in a manner it considers appropriate, restrict or prohibit aviation in a specific area for the following reasons:

  1. by request of the rescue, police or military authorities, the Border Guard, Customs, a sea or air rescue centre, the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, safety investigation authority or an aviation authority, for a period of no more than 7 days, if it is essential for aviation safety, national defence, police operations, rescue operations or public order and safety; or
  2. at its own initiative, for a period of no more than 1 day, if there is an exceptional and particularly compelling reason to do so, related to aviation safety or national defence.

AMC implements airspace restrictions primarily by establishing a temporary restricted area (a danger area in international waters) or by activating an appropriate permanent restricted area or danger area. Authorities can present the order via phone or a form (in finnish)

3. Danger areas of general aviation

The operating procedures of general aviation are described in the appendix “Instructions for general aviation D areas”. Available only in finnish.
