Projects and development
We improve the quality and reliability of our traffic control services continuously to ensure that railway traffic is safe, smooth and efficient for both businesses and consumers.
Increasing automation and intelligent traffic control systems are the cornerstones of our strategy, and we are using them to improve the cost efficiency and user experience of railways. We develop data and its use through digital ecosystem services to meet the needs of both passenger and freight traffic. Developing our services through interaction with our clients is an increasingly important part of our operations.
Digirail project: additional capacity, eco-friendliness and safety through future technology
The Digirail project will reform the train control system, which is essential for safe and smooth train traffic in the future. The new train control system will improve the punctuality and safety of trains. It will also minimise the effects of possible disruptions. The project will also address the increased demand for rail traffic by providing additional rail traffic capacity and improving the level of customer service. The Digirail project will also help to mitigate climate change by increasing the market share of low-emission rail transport in both passenger and freight transport, which will significantly reduce transport emissions.

Development of remote control systems
By developing remote control systems, we are building a safer, more modern and more reliable traffic system. We were able to complete a challenging long-term project in Southeastern Finland when the new remote control system (KAKO) was deployed at the end of 2023. The remote control system upgrade in Northern and Central Finland (POKA) also progressed in many ways, including through deployments. The remote control system for Southern Finland was upgraded to the same version as KAKO. The technical reliability of the Tampere remote control system (TAKO) was enhanced.
