Tunnels

Externally, tunnels may appear to be quite simple constructs. Did you know that they still conceal a whole lot of modern technology that is connected in real time with Fintraffic’s Road Traffic Centre? Motorists can pass through tunnels safely, as the traffic flow is monitored 24 hours a day.

Control devices indicate if something exceptional happens in a tunnel

In tunnels, safety always comes first, and the extensive technical systems used in tunnels are planned, built and maintained with the focus on safety.

The tunnels operated by Fintraffic include most of the largest road tunnels in Finland. These tunnels are monitored by the Fintraffic Road Traffic Centre around the clock.

The extensive technical systems of tunnels include traffic control, fire alarm and fault detection systems, etc. Traffic monitoring is also enabled by comprehensive camera systems. With a view to the safety in tunnels, an important feature is also a functioning heating, plumbing, ventilation and electrical installation technology, including ventilation and smoke extraction systems, as well as lighting systems that adapt to the conditions.

Do you know your tunnel etiquette? Driving in a tunnel also requires vigilance from the driver. Read this and you’ll know how to drive safely through a tunnel! https://www.fintraffic.fi/en/news/do-you-know-your-tunnel-etiquette-read-and-youll-know-how-drive-safely-through-tunnel
