Railway traffic services
We are responsible for the traffic control and safety of Finnish railway traffic along the country's 6,500-kilometre railway network, which is traversed annually by more than 500,000 trains carrying tens of millions of passengers. Our services include traffic control, capacity management and traffic planning, all of which promote the smoothness and sustainable development of traffic. We also provide customer information services and take care of recovery from disruptions and safety 24 hours a day. More information on our services can be found below. Please contact us if we can help you with your different service needs.
Rail traffic control and management
We guide and secure railway traffic as well as maintain a situational picture of the entire country’s railway network 24/7/365. Our traffic controllers cooperate with various stakeholders, such as rescue services, in order to manage disturbances and extraordinary circumstances in traffic.
Capacity management and traffic planning
We ensure that railway traffic remains fair, safe and appropriate. Through capacity management, we can ensure that the railway network’s scheduled train traffic is realised. In traffic planning, we find ways to make railway traffic and track maintenance of Finland's railway network fit together.
Passenger Information Services
We help passengers navigate their train journey by providing up-to-date information via displays and PA equipment on stations and platforms. We provide up-to-date information on train traffic and its schedules, extraordinary situations, incidents and forecasts to hundreds of thousands of passengers all over Finland every day.
Operating centre functions
We play a key role in providing advice on the electrical safety and use of the electrical track system 24/7. We are responsible for monitoring and operating the entire electric track system in Finland and for processing faults.
Situation Coordinator service
We provide the Situation Coordinator service from the Helsinki and Tampere control centres 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The most important task of the Situation Coordinator service is to act as a link between railway operators and authorities in the event of accidents and disruptions and also to support traffic control in these situations.
Information system services for professionals
We are responsible for information systems related to capacity management, traffic planning and traffic control. See the instructions for the KUPLA application for train drivers, the RUMA application for track contractors or the LIIKE system for rail traffic.
