Using open data in business provides a competitive advantage these days. When companies can apply open data in their processes, they can gain significant benefits, be it efficiency, new innovations or improved customer experience.
The data sources offered by Fintraffic offer a comprehensive view of the traffic situation in Finland. You can also offer your own traffic-related data to be shared in Fintraffic’s information services. This allows you to market your competence and create added value for your operations.
Fintraffic’s data are already used in dozens of different services
Fintraffic’s data solutions are a key part of several digital services in Finland. Fintraffic’s own traffic services, such as Fintraffic Traffic Situation and opas.matka.fi, utilise Fintraffic’s interfaces and showcase the available data.
Many cities trust the information they provide as a basis for their journey planners. Train scheduling services and several routing and navigation applications also utilise the interfaces offered by Digitraffic and Digitransit to provide their users with an up-to-date and reliable user experience.
Examples of services using Fintraffic’s data sources
- Navigation services (HERE, TomTom, Waze) which provide real-time traffic information
- juliadata.fi (open data for rail traffic), which enables monitoring and forecasting of rail traffic

The same CC 4.0 BY licence currently applies to most datasets produced by other actors as well.
Fintraffic also strives to promote data business by providing a platform for commercial data producers for their data and services. It also aims to create a channel for dialogue between data producers and users.
Please note that the use of data produced by some third-party actors (including the reservation and payment interfaces of traffic operators) requires a user permit or agreement. In other words, remember to check the user rights to the data and any restrictions related to it when introducing services.

Easy first steps with Fintraffic services
A simple way to start using Fintraffic’s traffic data is to embed the traffic information widgets offered by Fintraffic on your website and in your applications. Such embeds include the timetable displays of certain public transport stops or train stations or, for example, selected weather cameras.
These embeds provide a real-time view of the traffic situation and can be easily installed on your website. This allows companies and individuals to offer added value through their services without major investments or significant technical expertise.
