Fintraffic’s sustainability programme complete – Towards safer, smoother and more environmentally friendly traffic

Traffic Management Company Fintraffic’s sustainability programme has been completed and integrated into the company’s strategy and business operations. The programme aims to reduce Fintraffic’s emissions and help the entire transport sector to control emissions, develop the company as a workplace, increase the benefits for customers and other stakeholders, and ensure good governance and efficient operation.

Fintraffic provides traffic control services on land, sea and air and produces traffic data and digital services, which serve Finland as a whole. These services promote the safety and smooth flow of traffic and reduce emissions.

“Many of us have been determined to take Fintraffic’s sustainability to the next level. It has been great to see that Fintraffic’s strategy, which promotes the safety, smooth flow and environmental friendliness of traffic has been a strong foundation for developing our sustainability. As a result, our sustainability programme is closely integrated into our operations and daily work, ensuring that sustainability work is carried out and produces benefits for our stakeholders. At the same time, it is a significant support for us to prepare reports on sustainability in accordance with the CSRD regulation in 2026,” says Mikko Saariaho, Chief Strategy and Communications Officer at Fintraffic.

Responsibility for the environment, people, communities and good governance

The key areas of Fintraffic’s sustainability programme are responsibility for the environment, people and communities, and good governance. Fintraffic’s sustainability programme defines the objectives, measures and indicators of these key areas.

Our goal is to reduce the significant greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations to zero by 2030 and to achieve full carbon neutrality in major procurements by 2035 in accordance with the policy of the Finnish government. In practice, the electricity and district heating used by Fintraffic are already fossil-free, and we are also moving towards zero-emission fuels in areas like emergency power production and our vehicles.

Development of Fintraffic as a workplace means, for example, further improvements in the well-being of our personnel, bolstering occupational safety and strengthening equality and non-discrimination.

We are also determined to continue to improve the efficiency of our service production, as the core of our sustainability is in responsible and cost-effective use of funds.

What we do for our stakeholders and customers is to improve traffic safety and ensure societal preparedness and reliable transport services.

Cooperation and stakeholders

Our stakeholder liaisons ensure that our policies and key measures are known to the relevant stakeholders and that we are aware of the expectations, opportunities and risks of the stakeholders. They also ensure that these matters are considered in the Group’s strategy process and operational development.

Fintraffic updates the description of the essential impacts, risks and opportunities of its business operations annually. Risks are managed as part of the risk management system. Fintraffic is committed to actively develop sustainability-related competencies at different levels of the organisation.
