POLO Port Activity to become a part of the digital services provided by Fintraffic

Fintraffic's Vessel Traffic Services is expanding its digital port services with POLO Port Activity. With the new POLO service package, Fintraffic's Vessel Traffic Services will continue to ensure the long-term development of the application for ports, also on a port-by-port basis.

POLO Port Activity was previously developed by the software development and innovation company Unikie, which has been developing POLO as an additional service based on the needs of different ports to Fintraffic's Port Activity application.

"Fintraffic's Port Activity application is already in use in more than 20 ports in Finland and Sweden and in about a couple of hundred different organisations. The application helps maritime logistics actors and ports to develop their operations in a more efficient direction through real-time vessel and port information. Fintraffic will continue to develop Port Activity in a customer-oriented and open manner, where port-specific service development will continue to play a key role," explains CEO Rami Metsäpelto of Fintraffic’s Vessel Traffic Services.

Fintraffic's Port Activity application offers real-time arrival and departure times for ships, emission calculations, berth planning, information on detachment and mooring and invoicing services, as well as water and waste management orders, tug and pilotage services – all in the same application. The Port Activity service is built on an open ecosystem basis, which ensures that ports can develop the service according to their own needs. Port Activity is also used outside Finland, and Fintraffic will continue to expand the service internationally.

POLO Port Activity will be transferred to Fintraffic's Vessel Traffic Services through a business deal on 7 June 2024, whereas the software development and innovation company that previously developed the POLO, Unikie, will sell the POLO business to Fintraffic's Vessel Traffic Services. Petri Kalske, who is already familiar with Fintraffic, continues in customer relationship management.

The Port Activity App is part of Fintraffic’s maritime traffic management ecosystem work, in which the exchange of data between shipping and its logistics chains and the construction of a situation picture is promoted through close cooperation between maritime actors and the use of new digital solutions. The Port Activity App collects information relevant to all port operators from different systems under the same application and is intended for professionals working on port visits.
