Fintraffic’s Board of Directors has appointed Sanna Järvenpää, MSc (Tech), as CEO of Fintraffic Railway as of 29 June 2023. Järvenpää succeeds Pia Julin, who became CEO of Fintraffic on 14 June 2023.
Sanna Järvenpää has had a long career in the rail industry. Most recently, she has been Fintraffic Railway’s Service and Development Director since the beginning of 2023. Prior to this, she was Fintraffic’s Chief Operating Officer and Safety Manager. Järvenpää has been working for the company and its predecessor (Finrail) since 2013.
“Sanna has robust experience in rail traffic management and the entire railway sector, which is currently undergoing major changes in its operating environment. At Fintraffic, we have been working to create a strategy whose implementation requires determined leadership and an innovative and visionary approach. We want to shape and steer the future of both railways and the entire traffic system in close cooperation with our partners, and to ensure progress in our important Digirail project. Digirail will enable Finland to be at the forefront of Europe in harnessing digitalisation to both improve the safety and smoothness of rail traffic and enhance its appeal. Sanna is the right person to drive these issues successfully forward. She will bring both continuity and profound customer thinking to rail traffic management, and is also an easily approachable and energizing leader,” says Fintraffic’s CEO Pia Julin.
“Building a better functioning society and developing the rail traffic sector have always been close to my heart. At Fintraffic, I’ve already had the chance to work on these areas for a long time in many different roles. I’m excited at this opportunity to continue my journey with Fintraffic’s amazing and professional personnel and stakeholders. This new position is a major vote of confidence in my abilities. We’ll continue to implement our ambitious strategy and, as part of the Finnish traffic system as a whole, will create safer, smoother and more environmentally friendly rail traffic in which digitalisation plays a significant role in terms of both traffic management and travel and logistics chains,” says Sanna Järvenpää.
